It’s National Apprenticeship Week, so what better way to get involved than to share the experiences of our very own apprentices. Nearly half of our workforce have joined us through our apprenticeship scheme and have had the opportunity to attend university whilst gaining on-the-job experience. From now qualified staff to our newest apprentice, read their stories below! #NAW2021

Sam Prideaux, Quantity Surveyor

“Although I wanted to further my education, being a full-time university student didn’t appeal to me.  Modus gave me the opportunity not only to further my education by supporting me to undertake an online part-time degree, but also gain valuable knowledge and experience in my profession at the same time.

Throughout my apprenticeship, I was given a variety of experience in different sectors both pre and post-contract and was pushed out of my comfort zone when necessary.

Having completed the apprenticeship scheme and qualifying in 2020, I couldn’t recommend this route enough and hope I can provide some inspiration for young people wishing to embark on a similar journey to such a rewarding career.”

Jake Pitcher, Assistant Surveyor

“When I left sixth form I was unsure whether I wanted to go to university full time, or go through the apprenticeship route and attend university part-time. Modus allowed me to realise that the part-time route was best for me as I could learn on the job, combining experience with education.

Modus have fully supported me throughout my apprenticeship and pushed me in at the deep end at times, and I really think this is the best way to learn. It has taught me to not be afraid to make mistakes or get things wrong because that is part of development and learning, and I feel it has helped me massively in terms of my education, experience and developing as a person.  I would urge anyone to take the apprenticeship route as the experience you gain is invaluable and really helps with application to real-life environment whilst enabling you to have a greater understanding of the topics covered in the university course.

My university apprenticeship scheme is due to complete in 2022 and I am really looking forward to becoming a fully qualified Quantity Surveyor and pushing on from strength to strength.”

Josh Belsey, Trainee Surveyor

From the very start I have been involved as heavily as my experience allows for in various pre-contract projects, always being given the opportunity to learn new skills and better my existing skillset.

As I am progressing, I am slowly becoming more involved in post-contract project work, specifically on The George in Rye and the Serviced Office Scheme at Tower House in Lewisham. I have been a part of the team for over a year and a half now and have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far at Modus.

Rebecca Collins, Trainee Surveyor

Since joining Modus in October 2020, I have had the opportunity to work on various projects allowing me to gain a wide variety of experience in quantity surveying.  In the short space of time that I have been working with Modus, I have already gained lots of knowledge.

I look forward to starting my degree later this year so that I will be able to apply what I have already learnt and learn so much more.
