The Coast Drive development at Greatstone is a landmark project aimed at enhancing local amenities and boosting tourism along the Romney Marsh coastline. The scheme includes the construction of a new visitor centre, upgraded water sports facilities, and the addition of 93 beach huts to revitalise the seafront experience.
Key improvements include: Over 120 new car parking spaces, Electric vehicle charging points, Public toilets, including a fully accessible Changing Places facility, A visitor centre featuring public showers, a community café with outdoor seating and a flexible educational space for local use.
Given the site’s proximity to the ecologically significant Natura 2000 zone and its designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), all works have been carefully scheduled outside the nesting season of migratory birds. The development has been planned in consultation with Natural England to ensure full environmental compliance.
In line with the council’s Carbon Action Plan, sustainability measures include:
