Hearing Impairment Unit, Canterbury Academy

The works comprise the reconfiguration and refurbishment of the Frank Hooker building, along with a vertical and horizontal extension to the existing teaching block to create the new hearing impairment unit classrooms.

The approved design included a first floor extension, with a new circulation core linking from the floor below. The ground floor will remain as two classrooms, which will be modernised. The new first floor will include an office, store, disabled WC, and teaching pods – providing specialist additional teaching spaces for children with hearing impairments.
