New SEN Facilities at Leigh Academy Minster - Specialist ASD Provision
Modus is proud to support the development of a new Special Educational Needs (SEN) facility at Leigh Academy Minster, designed specifically for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This important project will create a high-quality, inclusive learning environment that caters to the needs of secondary school students aged 11-18 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Working in partnership with Leigh Academies Trust and funded by Kent County Council, this SEN development involves the full remodelling and refurbishment of a disused construction block to create a modern, two-storey ASD-friendly education facility. Once complete, the new Snowfields Academy Satellite SEN Provision will offer places for up to 60 pupils.
The design reflects best practice in ASD educational environments, with carefully considered spaces that support focus, comfort, and wellbeing. Facilities include; specialist classrooms, a dedicated library, breakout and quiet zones, a fully equipped sensory room, dining areas, administrative offices and secure, private outdoor space for relaxation and sensory regulation.
The project also delivers a significant Biodiversity Net Gain, enriching the site’s natural surroundings and promoting outdoor wellbeing, a key element in the holistic support of young people with autism.
Construction is set to begin in early 2025, with the facility ready to welcome pupils for the start of the new academic year in September 2025. Modus is delivering Project Co-ordination, Contract Administration and Quantity Surveying services to ensure smooth and successful delivery.
This project is an excellent example of how well-designed SEN school buildings can positively impact local communities and improve outcomes for neurodiverse learners.
